The form of dramatised documentary is quite special as we deal with two types of materials - documentary testimony and illustrated narration. It wasn't always easy to put these two forms together.
That's why editing had a special role in the film and its contribution can be appreciated in its own right. Creative editing is like an actor in the film and communicates some meaning, going beyond its usual technical role. It's important to point out the dilemma that we faced while editing: what to include in the film and what to cut out. Out of several hundred hours of material, we had to make a 90-minute film, due to distribution requirements, especially in the West. While the choice of materials and editing is usually about separating the grain from the chaff, in Testimony we had to make difficult choices of separating the grain from the grain that wasn't much worse. It's good that the entire material recorded with Cardinal Dziwisz will be given to the Cracow curia and perhaps used in the future.
