Paweł Pitera was born in 1952 in Warsaw. He is a director, screenplay writer, author of films, plays, as well as TV series and films. He graduated from the directing department of the Łódź Film School and the department of Polish language at Warsaw University. His directing credits include Sny i marzenia (1983), Szkatułka z Honkongu (1983), Na kłopoty Bednarski (1986), Powrót do Polski (1988).
In the past several years, he has focused only on making films portraying the life of John Paul II and, more broadly, connected with Vatican themes: Watykan Jana Pawła II (2000) and Nie lękajcie się (2003).
